WildShots: Kids Capture the Outdoors Photography Contest

 Calling all young explorers! Show us the great outdoors through your lens! Kids ages 4-18 are invited to enter their best nature photos - from bugs and birds to sunsets and streams. 

October 1, 2025

Must be a resident of Rowan, Bath, Morgan or Menifee counties

$10 per photo.  All photos should be in landscape format, not portrait (see description below).   

Landscape vs. Portrait Photos:

• Landscape means your photo is wider than it is tall.
• Portrait means your photo is taller than it is wide.

How to take a landscape photo:

1. Turn your camera or phone sideways so it’s wider (horizontal), not straight up and down.
2. Look at the screen – if it’s wide like a movie screen, you’re in landscape mode.
3. Make sure the subject (like a mountain, sunset, or big group of people) fits nicely from side to side.
4. Then just tap to focus and take the picture! 

Category #1: Ages 4-7

Category #2: Ages 8-11

Category #3: Ages 12-16

Category #4: Ages 16-18

Physical entries can be dropped off at the Rowan County Arts Center located at 205 East Main Street, Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. or at the Morehead Visitor Center located at 150 East First Street, Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.  All entries must include the photographer name, phone number and mailing address.  (Please print legible)

1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each category will receive a medal, one free calendar and be featured in the 2026 calendar 

A reception for all entries will be held at the Rowan County Arts Center on Thursday, December 11 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.   All photos can be picked up at the reception or on Friday, December 12 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

 All proceeds benefit Teach Me Outdoors Inc. and the Rowan County Arts Center
